Defence lawyers in Canada are just as bad as the ones in the US. Check out these quotes from this article in the Toronto Star. Context: 17 arrested before they had a chance to blow up something in Ontario with three times the amount of explosives that Timothy McVeigh had when he blew up the Federal Building in Oklahoma.
“I think there are a lot of people here today who should not be involved in this,” said Anser Farooq, a lawyer representing several of the accused. “I think they (the police) cast their net far too wide. We’ve been talking several lawsuits as a result of this action,” he said.
Hopefully the lawsuits are going to be where the criminals get put into jail forever, but I doubt that’s what he’s thinking.
Pointing at snipers on the roof, Farooq, who would not name his clients, said: “This is ridiculous. They’ve got soldiers here with guns. This is going to completely change the atmosphere.”
Soldiers with Guns? In Canada?
I guess the atmosphere he was really wanting was the one where Ronald McDonald comes over with that yummy orange drink.
Through their lawyers, some complained about the conditions where they were held Friday night and asked that they be given copies of the Qur’an while in custody.
Conditions? I guess they didn’t get queen sized beds.
