As a conservative I'd say that I'd prefer that a conservative got in. Of course, there aren't any running.

As a Democrat I would hope anyone but McCain wins the Republican nomination. The rest of the Republican field should be unelectable. Mike Huckabee believes in creation science and not evolution. No one would have to bomb us back to the stone age because he's already there. Guiliani is a fascist who would surpress freedoms more than Bush. Mit Romney makes John Kerry look consistant. (he supported abortion rights while governor of Mass.). The New York Times is simply endorsing the most intelligent well qualified candidate. The rest of the Republican party is too myopically right wing to notice. That's why the Republicans must be defeated in November.

Actually, I'd rather that Fox, CNN and the Times all come out and say it. I just found this particular "endorsement" funny in that everything about it said we like McCain because he's almost a Democrat. The advertising (even though generated by scripts,) just said it all.

Being biased is human nature. Being open about it is just being honest.

So I suppose you prefer when media outlets lie and make pathetic attempts to hide their ideological bias a la Fox News. At least the Times is fairly open about it.
